Disability Support Workforce Roundtable - Online Session

Next date: Monday, 22 September 2025 | 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM

The National Workforce Collaboration received federal funding through our advocacy work through the DSS Sector Development and Jobs and Market Fund. We are funded until June 2026 to increase the capability of the provider market and disability workforce through activities which focus on:

  • A public campaign – organising a public facing campaign to make the community aware of the value and reward in undertaking support work.
  • Building a career path for workers – Attracting people to disability support work and providing a valued career path, appropriate salary and improved conditions.
  • Training Reform – addressing the need for differently trained workers and the involvement of people with disability in devising new training regimes to deliver specific worker training and skill development to support people with high or complex needs.

As part of our work, the National Workforce Collaboration are holding a series of Roundtables to discuss:

  • what a career path would look like for support workers
  • what entry level through to senior positions might entail in terms of responsibilities, qualifications and pay
  • what other barriers currently exist and how these can be rectified (licences, checks and clearances, casualisation of the workforce)
  • what skills and qualifications should be included in training to meet the needs and expectations of Australians living with disability
  • how these training offerings align with career progression and professional development opportunities and
  • how people with disability can be directly involved.
