Media release from REX
Regional Express (Rex) has today provided an update regarding the recently introduced Rex community-fare. The $199.00 community-fare is targeted at the direct flights (see schedule below) between Broken Hill and Sydney from Monday to Saturday and is available for all advanced bookings of at least 30 days prior subject to booking class availability in addition to all available seats within 24 hours prior to departure.
The community-fare represents a $106.00 price reduction to the lowest standard fare with Rex contributing $94.00 to the reduction and council contributing $12.00 through the waiver of the passenger head tax. The initiative forms part of a broader 5-year partnership agreement between Rex and Broken Hill City Council that was integral to Rex’s decision to commence direct flights between Broken Hill and Sydney in October 2014. Under this agreement Rex also implemented new services through Melbourne via Mildura.
Cassandra Kerr, Rex National Sales & Marketing Manager said “the Broken Hill community have certainly taken advantage of the $199.00 Rex community-fare with more than 250 fares purchased since the launch of the scheme 3 weeks ago of which 40 were purchased one day prior to travel.”
Broken Hill Council’s General Manager, James Roncon also commented “It’s extremely pleasing to see the community fares are proving popular, and providing locals and tourists alike with a new lower-cost option to travel directly between Broken Hill and Sydney. “The new fares are a reflection of the positive outcomes that can be achieved for the community when Council and businesses work together for the betterment of Broken Hill.
“We’ve had numerous positive discussions with Rex throughout this process, and look forward to further strengthening our relationship into the future.”
