Broken Hill Library Outback Letter Box Service
The Outback Letterbox Service is a free delivery service of library materials, by mail/freight service to isolated people in Far Western New South Wales. It is a service fully funded by the Library Council of NSW with State Library NSW.
When you join up you will be given some forms to fill in as well as a "selection" sheet. You need to fill out all of the forms as well as the selection sheet and send them back in to us.
In each bag you will receive a selection sheet for each member who wishes to borrow. This sheet needs to be filled in each time so that we know what to send you. You can access our online catalogue to search for material that you want or place a reserve http://bit.ly/bhlibero
You can also tell us the general category you want, i.e. Australian history, detective mystery stories, country music etc. If this sheet is not filled in then you will not receive another bag until you contact us, if you forget your selection sheet you can send in a request by email, Facebook or a phone call!
This is a free service; we pay for the freight of your bag both ways. All you need to do is to pack your bag with all the material that you want to return, along with your completed selection sheet, turn the name tag over and then give it back to your carrier, or drop off point.
The borrowing period for Outback customers is six weeks. This allows for us to pack your bag, take it to the carrier, transit time and reading time. If for some reason you don't finish all the items in your bag, you can renew them on the catalogue (this is another six weeks), or send back the items that you are finished with and on your selection sheet ask for the remainder to be extended. Items can be renewed twice if no one else is waiting for them.
