Get up to date on the Building Code
Published on 02 May 2019
Members of the local construction industry and the wider community wishing to keep up to date with recent changes to the Building Code of Australia are invited to attend an information session this month.
The session will be held in the Council Chambers on May 15 at 6:30pm, and will focus on recent changes to the Code (now part of the National Construction Code or 'NCC') relating to fire separation for Class 10 buildings.
The changes can potentially impact anyone planning to erect Class 10 building, such as a carport, shed or garage, on a residential property.
"These kinds of buildings form the bulk of the applications we receive," said Council’s Team Leader Building Certification and Compliance Services, Andrew Schultz.
"The changes to the Code mean that people will need to be a bit more conscious of the size and location of their shed, garage or carport if it is near their house.
"We really want to make sure the local industry is aware of the new requirements so we can work together to make the Development Application process easier for all involved."
The session is expected to run for one hour, and local builders, tradespeople, draftsmen and designers are particularly encouraged to attend.
