Representatives from Overton Creative and Cred Consulting are visiting the city this week as work begins on the city's Cultural Plan 2020-2040.

The Plan will provide a framework for the provision of cultural services, programs, facilities, and infrastructure to be implemented by Council over the next 20 years.

The Sydney-based firms will hold targeted workshops and meetings during the visit to gather initial information, before returning next year to hold broader community engagement.

Cred Consulting's Associate Director, April McCabe, said Broken Hill's wealth of cultural assets would make for a fascinating project.

"Broken Hill is so rich in culture, from its mining history and vibrant arts community through to the Living Desert and the amazing heritage buildings that line the streets," said April.

"There's amazing connections between all these cultural facets, and the exciting part of this project for our team is working with locals to produce a plan to manage and maximise the city's many cultural strengths, now and into the future.

"There's just so much to work with in Broken Hill - it's going to be a captivating project."

Overton Creative Consulting's Director, Andrew Overton, said the project represented a welcome chance to expand their work in Broken Hill.

"We've worked with Council previously around strategic plans and policies for the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery and public art in the city, so when another opportunity arose to work in Broken Hill we jumped at it," said Andrew.

"Broken Hill is just so engaging and intriguing, and we're looking forward to branching out beyond the arts sector and looking at the many cultural aspects that combine to make the city so unique."

Cred and Overton are scheduled to return to the city in February 2021 to hold engagement sessions with the broader community to inform the Plan.
