The city's library service is set to reopen ahead of schedule, with the new temporary library at Council's Administrative Centre opening its doors at 10am tomorrow (February 29).
The library service has been moved to Council’s Administrative Centre at 240 Blende Street to allow for work on a new library to begin in mid-2024.
The reopening will also see Customer Service return to the Administrative Centre after months of operating from the Visitor Information Centre.
Council's General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said the reopening would be welcomed by both staff and residents alike.
"From a service delivery perspective it's great to have the library back up and running, and our Customer Service back in the Administrative Centre," he said.
"The library is so important for local families and community groups, and we want to again thank all our library users for their patience as we got this temporary library up and running."
Mayor Tom Kennedy said it was exciting to see the library project take another step forward, and thanked staff for their ongoing efforts.
"The new library project has been on the books for almost 10 years, so it's great that we're now seeing steps in the right direction," he said.
"Staff should be congratulated on their efforts to get this temporary library up and running so quickly, I understand it's been a big team effort from staff across all departments.
"With the temporary library complete we can now look forward to construction getting underway in the coming months to provide a new upgraded library for our community."
Construction on the new library is expected to begin in mid-2024 and take approximately 18 months.
The new library project is funded by the NSW Government, Federal Government, and Council.
