Review of the Companion Animals Act 1998 - Public Consultation

For the first time in 20 years, the NSW Office of Local Government is reviewing the Companion Animals Act 1998.

Pet owners, councils, veterinarians, rehoming organisations and other stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the discussion paper by 4 May 2025.

Submissions will help shape improvements in areas such as:

• Dog attack prevention

• Cat management

• Reducing entry of cats and dogs into pounds

• Increasing desexing and registration

• Promoting responsible pet ownership
