Council will restrict access to public parks and play equipment as it meets its obligations to discourage residents gathering in public.

Mayor Darriea Turley AM said the measures were being implemented ahead of school holidays, and urged parents to prevent their children from congregating.

"It is imperative that parents understand that their children are not immune to this virus, we have already seen two children test positive in Australia this week," said Mayor Turley.

"If parents allow their children congregate in the city's parks or any other area then they are putting their family and the wider community at risk.

"This is probably the only time I'll say this - please encourage your kids to stay home and play video games instead of going outside."

Mayor Turley encouraged residents of all ages to practice physical distancing, and stay home unless it was absolutely necessary to leave the house.
