Council is calling for early nominations for the 2020 Civic Ball after this year's participants elected to postpone their debut by 12 months.

Council received four nominations for the 2019 event, and met with prospective debutantes at the Civic Centre yesterday.

Mayor Turley said event guidelines stipulate that six to twelve debutantes are needed to stage the Ball, however Council offered to hold the event in a reduced capacity if this year's nominees wanted to proceed.

"This event is all about the debutantes, so we were really willing to take whichever course of action they decided," said Mayor Turley.

"As all the girls were of the youngest eligible age (16 years), they were happy to simply hold off until next year."

However Mayor Turley said the carryover of this year's debutantes could potentially put a squeeze on numbers for the 2020 Ball.

"Debutante numbers fluctuate from year to year, but from preliminary conversations it looks there's already seven girls, including this year's pool, keen to make their debut in 2020," said Mayor Turley.

"That means that there are prospectively only five places available for the 2020 Ball.

"So if any girls were thinking about making 2020 their year, I'd strongly encourage them to contact our Events team as soon as possible."

Those wishing to nominate can contact Council's Events team at events@brokenhill.nsw.gov.au or phone Civic Ball Coordinator Shannan Botten on 8080 3322.
