An ounce of prevention

In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Council will postpone or cancel all events and programs across its services that require groups of people to congregate.

All regular programs at the Broken Hill City Library have been cancelled, along with all programs and exhibition launches at the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery,  Albert Kersten Minerals and Mining Museum (GeoCentre), and Visitor Information Centre.

A series of community pop-up stalls scheduled for late March to inform the Community Strategic Plan have also been postponed.

Council's General Manager, James Roncon, said the measures have been implemented to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

"We're not aware of any confirmed cases in Broken Hill at this point, but we want to implement measures in advance to ensure we are well prepared should cases arise," he said.

"We realise these changes may disappoint some people, but we want to take proactive, common-sense steps to limit social interaction and help prevent any spread of the virus in the community.

"We'll also review operating hours of our services to try and limit face-to-face interaction for staff and residents.

"In the meantime we encourage everyone to utilise our online services where possible, and take all steps outlined by NSW Health to minimise the spread of the virus."
