Council's Environmental Health Officer is responsible for protecting public health in caravan parks and camping grounds in the Broken Hill area. This is achieved by enforcing state regulations, conducting routine health and safety inspections, managing wastewater and drinking water safety and investigating public complaints regarding sanitation and overcrowding.

Core Responsibilities

Inspections & approvals: Perform routine audits of caravan parks and camping grounds to ensure compliance with the Local Government Act 1993 and the Local Government (Manufactured Home Estates, Caravan Parks, Camping Grounds and Moveable Dwellings) Regulation 2021.

Water & sanitation: Monitor onsite sewage management systems, wastewater disposal and drinking water safety.

Public health standards: Check amenities such as communal showers, laundries and public swimming or spa pools to prevent infectious disease outbreaks.

Pest & waste control: Oversee vermin and garbage management protocols across camping grounds.
