Repairs scheduled for Argent Street

Council will completely reconstruct the northern edge of Argent Street between Chloride and Oxide Street later this month to remove numerous potholes and ridges.

The defects primarily occur in parking spaces on the northern side of the road and present a trip hazard to shoppers and store owners.

The work will commence on Saturday June 26, and is expected to be completed within three days, weather permitting.

Parking will be unavailable on the northern side of Argent Street between Chloride and Oxide Street during the works, however pedestrian access and traffic flow will be unaffected.

Council's Group Manager Infrastructure and Projects, Codie Howard, predicted the $100,000 upgrade would be well received.

"We've had a number of complaints about the road defects on that side of Argent Street from store owners," he said.

"We're really happy to be able to get to work and reconstruct that area to make shopping in Argent Street safer and easier.

"We'd just ask us shoppers and retailers to be patient for those three days, we'll look to have the work completed as quickly as possible."

Council will also undertake significant roadworks that will close a section of Galena Street near the Williams Street intersection on June 21.

Works involve a complete reconstruction of the road and maintenance on kerbs and gutters, and should be completed by June 25, weather permitting.

The Argent Street reconstruction is funded by Council, whilst the Galena Street works have been supported by Transport for NSW under the Fixing Local Roads Program.

Locals are reminded to drive carefully around all work sites and obey all signage and direction.
