Locals can get fit, have fun, and win great prizes next month as part of the Biketober Business Challenge.

The event is supported by 'Get Healthy at Work' - a NSW Government program that aims to improve the health of working adults in NSW.

It is a free cycling challenge open to everyone in NSW to encourage workers to experience the joys and benefits of riding a bike.

There are a range of prizes on offer for workplaces of all sizes, and participants need only ride a bike for as little as 10 minutes or more during October.

Council's Community Development Officer, Dionne Devlin, said Council staff would be taking the challenge.

"We've circulated the initiative amongst Council, high schools, and community health organisations, so it will be interesting to see who gets on board," said Ms Devlin.

"It's a fun and healthy program and there's opportunities for small and large businesses to win prizes, so hopefully it proves popular and we'll all be a little fitter by the end of October!"

Those interested can register at www.lovetoride.net/nsw, and those who register before October 1 will be in the running win a Bosch eBike worth $3,899.
