Locals are encouraged to nominate those who go the extra mile for our community by lodging a nomination in the 2026 Volunteer Awards.

Nominations are open until 27 April, giving residents plenty of time to shine a spotlight on the individuals and groups making a real difference to Broken Hill through their generosity and commitment.

Award categories this year include Community, Cultural, Environment, Event, Health and Social Services, Manager/Supervisor, Tourism, Sporting, Youth, and Emergency Services.

Mayor Tom Kennedy said volunteers continue to be a cornerstone of local events, sports, and services.

“These awards are an important opportunity to recognise and thank those who give their time to improve our city, and the lives of our residents," said Mayor Kennedy.

"Our volunteers are very humble and never seek the spotlight, so it's important that locals lodge nominations to ensure their work and achievements are recognised.

“Nominating someone is a simple process, and Council staff are available to help if needed.”

To submit a nomination visit our website here or contact Council’s Community Development team on 8080 3321 or community.development@brokenhill.nsw.gov.au.

The Volunteer High Tea and Awards Ceremony is free (bookings required) and will be held at 4pm on May 21 at the Broken Hill Civic Centre.

Those wishing to attend should RSVP by 1 May here or calling the Civic Centre Box Office on 8080 3575.
