About Anna
Anna Liston is a 10-year-old textile artist. She has been sewing and designing for three years and loves bringing colour, creativity and fun into her work.
Textiles are Anna’s favourite medium, giving her the freedom to create everything from clothing and everyday items to unique visual art pieces. She particularly enjoys the design phase, spending time developing ideas and exploring how colour, creativity, design and functionality can come together in unique ways.
The Project
For Anna, Beyond the Dust represents the essence of Broken Hill. It inspires warm colours, clear skies and distinctive outback flora.
Her mural celebrates the Sturt Desert Pea, one of the region’s unique native flowers. With its vibrant red blooms, the Sturt Desert Pea creates a striking contrast against the warm tones of the landscape and the clear blue sky.
Through her work, Anna hopes viewers will pause to appreciate how unique Broken Hill is and reflect on the beauty of the Far West landscape.
“My piece highlights the iconic Broken Hill landscape, one that people travel far and wide to experience.”
Connection to Place & Community
Anna is inspired by the friendly people, unique flora and fauna, spectacular sunsets and vibrant local art culture of the Far West, particularly the many murals in the community.
Being selected gives Anna an opportunity to showcase the versatility of textiles and demonstrate that textile art can be both functional and visually expressive.
