About Anika
Anika Molesworth is an artist, author, poet and storyteller living among the mulga ridges of Wilyakali Country in Far Western New South Wales. She is inspired by wide open skies, wild places and the extraordinary wildlife of the region.
Working across narrative nonfiction, children’s literature, poetry and storytelling, Anika draws on her background in regenerative agriculture and climate science to explore climate crisis, ecological and rural futures with courage, hope and imagination.
Through books, performances and creative leadership projects, she seeks to help people connect to environmental issues and feel equipped to be problem-solvers.
The Project
Dust is such a prosaic element of living in Broken Hill, it settles everywhere. For Anika, Beyond the Dust speaks to looking beyond the everyday, and rediscovering the elements that shape us and our future.
Her mural has notes of memory and remembering, longing and loss, happiness and a deep connection with someone you love and who holds a special place in your universe.
“There is a special sparkle to this painting, so as you move around it watch the words flicker in the firelight”
Connection to Place & Community
Rooted in the experience of living and spending time out bush, the work also celebrates the campfire as a place of connection and storytelling.
Anika hopes her mural strikes a chord with viewers and encourages them to pause and reflect on their connection to this place.
