Civic Ball filling up fast

Prospective debutants are being encouraged to lodge their nomination for the 2026 Civic Ball after a surge of early interest in the event.

The Civic Ball is one of the longest-running debutante events in Australia, and will be held at the Civic Centre on September 25.

Although nominations are open until June 19, Council's Community Development Coordinator, Rachel Merton, said the event was already filling up fast.

"The Ball is limited to 10 debutantes (and their squires) to ensure they have the best experience possible on the night, and we've already had enquiries from six families," said Ms Merton

"Applications are open until June 19, but I would advise anyone considering making their debut this year to get in touch much sooner."

Mayor Tom Kennedy praised last year's huge gala event, and said the Civic Ball always provided an unforgettable night for debutantes and their families.

"Last year's Ball was really magical, the Debs and their squires looked amazing, the auditorium was beautifully decorated - it was a really opulent affair and a credit to all involved," said Mr Kennedy.

"Watching the joy of those involved and their pride in their appearance and performance was really special for everyone on the night.

“It's a wonderful tradition of our city that creates lasting memories and friendships for the debutantes and their families, and I feel honoured as Mayor to be able to share in it."
