Household Hazardous Waste is the term used for items that are typically found around the home that contain chemicals that can potentially be harmful to people, pets and the environment. It can include a wide range of chemicals like the following everyday items;
Garden Chemicals (herbicides)
Fluorescent light globes and tubes
Old gas bottles
These wastes must be collected, stored, transported and treated in a particular way so as not to cause harm to life, property or the environment.
Each year Council, in conjunction with Netwaste holds a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. This is generally held late in the year. Keep an eye out for advertising to see when the day is happening. Store your items safely until this date so that they can be disposed of correctly.
