Council is set to embark on a thorough review of its operations after a draft Service Review Framework was supported at Wednesday's Council meeting.
The Service Review process will examine over 65 different aspects of Council over the next four years to ensure the best services possible are being delivered, both internally and to the community.
Council has already reviewed its insurance process, resulting in a saving of $450,000 each year.
Service Reviews will now be extended via a pilot program which will examine the Library, Archives, Art Gallery, GeoCentre, Visitors Information Centre, Planning, and Customer Services.
Council's General Manager, James Roncon, said the long-term process would provide a number of benefits for both Council and ratepayers.
"This is about reviewing our operations to ensure our resources are being properly allocated to provide appropriate levels of service to the community," he said.
"In some instances we may find avenues where we can save money or reduce workloads, while in others we may discover we need to spend a little more or increase staffing to meet community needs and expectations."
He said the process would also have a number of internal benefits, and prompt Council departments to consider better methods of approaching daily tasks.
"We're very conscious that ratepayers want their Council to be working as efficiently as possible, and we're certainly working toward that goal," said Mr Roncon.
"Our staff recently looked at the steps involved in simply paying an invoice, and it was surprisingly complex and time consuming.
"Paying an invoice is only a small task when viewed in isolation, but if we can work to streamline all these internal processes, it will have a tremendous ripple effect across Council and ensure we're all working to optimum capacity for the community.
"To put it in plain terms - we want to make sure ratepayers are getting maximum bang for their buck."
