What is it?
The Broken Hill Smart Wi-Fi network is a free high speed service provided by Broken Hill City Council. Users can connect for 30 minutes per day and enjoy blazing fast speeds!
Where is it?
The free public Wi-Fi is available along Argent St between Bromide and Oxide st, Patton St between Comstock and South St, Patton Park, and at the airport. You may be able to pick up the signal outside of these areas depending on environmental obstructions
Why only 30 minutes?
Council had to choose between a data limit or a time limit set by the service provider. During the early stages of testing we discovered that users were reaching their data limit well before the 30 minute mark. In order to provide the best possible user experience to as many people as possible, the Broken Hill Smart Wi-Fi network was switched over to a time limit. This decision was made in line with our Smart Community Framework after data analysis revealed that the average usage duration was 28 minutes.
