NOTICES OF MOTION

Council calls for PSSA support

Councillor Tom Kennedy tabled a motion that Council send correspondence to the State Government and local primary school principals asking that they reintroduce funding for PSSA sport. An amendment was instead supported which called for Council to send correspondence to the Department of Education asking how Council could support the reintroduction of PSSA sport in schools.

Objection overruled

Cr Kennedy moved that Council send correspondence to the Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, and State ministers objecting to water restrictions. The motion also called for Council to state that the water restrictions are a political stunt by the Manager of Essential Water to promote the Wentworth to Broken Hill pipeline. The motion was defeated.

Costs sought around light donation

Councillor Tom Kennedy moved that the preparations be made for the installation of light towers at the Alma Oval. The towers will be donated to Council as part of the upgrade of the Jubilee Oval. An amendment was instead supported that calls for Council staff to first prepare a report detailing the costs associated with installing the towers, and ongoing operating and maintenance costs.

Old Brewery receives support

Councillors passed a development application (DA) for The Old Brewery Function Centre in Buck Street, pending the operator providing Council with further documentation around building upgrades, and ensuring various DA conditions are met.

Council-Perilya VPA on show

Councillors voted to put a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) between Council and Perilya on public display for 28 days. A (VPA) allows planning authorities and developers to work together to deliver infrastructure outcomes for the community. The VPA would see Perilya make a one-off contribution of $280,000 towards road works, as well as an annual $20,000 contribution towards road maintenance costs. Perilya will also contribute around $360,000 annually to the enhancement and maintenance of Zinc Lakes, Zinc Ovals, Zinc Bowling Club, Pony Club, and Rainbow Pre-School.

OneWifi to deliver Smart tech

Councillors awarded a $541,000 tender to OneWiFi & Infrastructure for the delivery of smart lighting and CCTV at Sturt Park and Patton Park, and smart lighting at Council's Administrative Centre.

More water for industrial area

Councillors also consented to the construction of an additional water supply main to the city's industrial area.
