Civic Centre services during COVID-19

All of Council's facilities are currently in the process of gradually reopening after being interrupted due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Please note that Council is taking a cautious approach to all facility reopenings in order to meet Government guidelines, and ensure the safety of the community and staff.

Hours of Operation

Access to the Civic Centre is available in the following ways:

  • to attend an event that has been booked at the venue
  • by appointment only, for inspections to hire venue. To arrange please email us or phone 08 8080 3300.

Changes to Services

From 20th July 2020, the Civic Centre will reopen for bookings. Limited numbers of patrons may apply and will be managed on a booking by booking basis.

To help keep everyone safe, please read the following information before attending the Civic Centre and follow all staff directions while in the venue.

What we’re asking you to do as an attendee

  • Ensure your name and contact details have been recorded with the owner of the event you are attending to support contact tracing, the event owner will have their own system for recording these details so if you are unsure of the process contact your event owner.
  • Contact tracing information for those attending a ticketed event booked through the Civic Centre's Box Office; such as theatre productions, concerts and performances, will be collected via Council ticket platform in accordance with normal ticket transaction process.  Please ensure you enter your most current details when booking tickets, contact details for each ticket holder must be provided.
  • If applicable, bring a credit or debit card for any on-site purchases (we do not accept cash).
  • Don’t visit if you’re unwell, have experienced cold or flu symptoms in the last 14 days, or have returned from overseas in the last 14 days.
  • Consider downloading the COVIDSafe app.

What we’re asking you to do as an Event Owner

  • Collect patron/delegate contact details and note their attendance within the venue.  Minimum details to be collected include first name, last name and at a minimum mobile phone or email.  It is preferred that both email and mobile phone are collected.
  • Provide completed contact tracing list to your Civic Centre Event Coordinator prior to the completion of your event.  For bookings that occur over multiple days, contact details must be provided at the completion of each day. 
  • Ensure all patrons/delegates are aware of the conditions in place at the venue prior to their arrival.
  • Ensure you have read and understand your obligations as outlined in our Covid Safe Hirer Information brochure.

At the Civic Centre

  • Use hand-sanitiser stations provided on arrival and throughout the venue.
  • Keep at least 1.5 metres distance from others at all times.
  • Follow all directional signage and staff directions.
  • Allow less-mobile visitors to use lift first, or consider using the stairs. Our lift is limited to 1 person at a time.
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, and put the tissue in a bin.
  • Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds in our restrooms.

Visitors who don’t comply with these conditions will not be admitted or will be asked to leave to ensure the safety of all.

All contact tracing information provided to the Civic Centre will be securely stored in Council's Electronic Document Records Management System for a minimum period of 56 days.

What we’re doing for you

  • There is clear signage throughout the venue to help patrons/delegates maintain safe distances.
  • Each space has its maximum capacity, based on the rule of 1 person per 4 square metres. Please follow instructions from staff.
  • We’ve set out event spaces in consultation with Event owners to ensure patrons/delegates can move safely throughout the venue.
  • We’re cleaning frequently with hospital-grade disinfectants, regular cleaning occurs between sessions and high-touch areas are cleaned following high volume use through the course of a booking.
  • We’ve provided hand sanitisers at the Civic Centre entry and at various places throughout the venue.
  • We will continue to be guided by the NSW Government’s health guidelines and will provide updates to this information.

Wedding Ceremonies and Receptions

  • Capacity must not exceed 150 people (excluding staff).
  • Only the wedding couple are permitted on the dancefloor.  Staff will suggest floor plans available with organiser that reduce the temptation from guests to dance.  
  • Group singing and wind instruments at events will be assessed on a booking by booking basis and discouraged in the first instance.
  • Guests can only consume alcohol while seated. Signage is in place and directions from staff and security should be followed.
  • House keeping messages are provided to organiser and use of recorded message available.
  • Encourage guests to have a pen with them for signing guest books.  Sanitiser should be places at the signing table and organiser should monitor area to ensure guests are practicing good hygiene and sanitising.

Funerals, Memorial Services and Wakes

  • Capacity must not exceed 100 people (excluding staff).
  • Group singing and wind instruments at events will be assessed on a booking by booking basis and discouraged in the first instance.
  • Guests can only consume alcohol while seated. Signage is in place and directions from staff and security should be followed.
  • House keeping messages are provided to organiser and use of recorded message available.
  • Encourage guests to have a pen with them for signing guest books.  Sanitiser should be places at the signing table and organiser should monitor area to ensure guests are practicing good hygiene and sanitising.
