Council wishes to reassure the community that its essential services are unaffected despite the announcement of a COVID-19 case in the city.

Mayor Darriea Turley AM said Council was working closely with NSW Police and the Far West Local Health District as the situation unfolds.

"We're meeting with Police and health every day to see what assistance we can offer and how we can all work together to manage this incident," said Mayor Turley.

"There are now testing stations available at the Aged Persons Rest Centre, Memorial Oval, and Alma Oval, and I strongly encourage anyone with even the mildest of symptoms to get tested.

"In the meantime everyone's rubbish will be collected as normal, the waste facility remains open, and our parks and ovals are still open."

However, Mayor Turley urged parents to exercise a degree of caution when it came to playgrounds.

"Exercise is important however I think parents should take extra care with their kids and playgrounds," she said.

"Although staff spray the equipment down each day, we've seen in other areas that they can still be a transmission point.

"People of all ages should really avoid congregating in any one area."

Council's General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said Council staff could still be contacted for a variety of matters despite the lockdown.

"Although our tourism and customer facing centres are closed, our staff are still working from home and can offer assistance on most Council matters," he said.

"Please contact us by phone, email, or Facebook and we'll do all we can to assist."
