Safety first as conference cancelled

The Western Division of Councils conference set to be held in the city this week has been postponed in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The event was set to draw 150 attendees from across Australia to Broken Hill to discuss matters relating to Local Government in western NSW.

The decision to postpone the event was made by Acting Chair of the Western Division, Councillor Dave Gallagher, on Sunday.

"I understand it's an important conference and I apologise for any inconvenience, but the health of our community must come first," he said.

"I believe we all have a responsibility to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and ensure it has as little impact on Broken Hill as possible.

"I look forward to welcoming all delegates and representatives back to the city for the conference in future when conditions are more amenable to travel."
