Broken Hill is being asked to nominate inspirational locals for the 2022 Australia Day Awards.

Nominations for the Australia Day Awards are now open and will be accepted until October 20 in the categories of Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Youth Encouragement Award.

Australia Day Advisory Group Chair and Deputy Mayor, Christine Adams, said the awards were a great chance to reward inspirational locals and spread some positivity.

"We're all going through a difficult period at the moment, and there are a lot of people in our community who are going above and beyond to help others during COVID-19," said Cr Adams.

"Many of us have a little more time on our hands than normal, so please use that time to fill out a nomination form to ensure dedicated locals receive some deserved recognition."
