Forum for aspiring female leaders

 Women with an interest in upcoming Council elections are encouraged to come along to a women's candidate forum next week.

The forum is being hosted by the Australian Local Government Women's Association, and will be headed by the Association's Vice President and Mayor of Penrith, Karen McKeown OAM.

The "Getting Women Elected" event will provide attendees with valuable insight into what is involved in running as a Council candidate, and the roles and responsibilities of a Councillor.

The forum will include a welcome from Mayor Darriea Turley AM followed by a presentation from ALGWA NSW, along with a Q&A session with local Councillors.

Mayor Turley encouraged any women with leadership aspirations in Broken Hill to come along.

"This is a great opportunity for women to equip themselves with the knowledge to lead their community, and also to hear from other women in local government," said Mayor Turley.

"Based on the most recent local government elections, NSW has the lowest percentage of female representation at 31 per cent.

"We know women have so much to contribute to their communities, so it's important we do all we can to foster leadership at local government level.

"I strongly urge any aspiring female leaders in our community to be part of this forum."

The Getting Women Elected forum will be held at the Civic Centre from 4pm on June 11.
