Council will today enact further measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and prioritise its resources.

As of close of business today Council's Administrative Centre and Companion Animal Shelter will be closed to the public, while the Waste Facility will operate on reduced hours (8am-1pm) from March 24.

Council's General Manager, James Roncon, again urged locals to make use of online services where possible.

"This is an extension of yesterday's measures and again I want to stress that the services themselves are still running, we're just minimising face-to-face contact for staff and community safety," he said.

"Please make use of our online or phone services where possible. We’ll continue to review our operations and hopefully we can all get back to normal as soon as possible.”

Mr Roncon said Council would also reduce the number of public toilets remaining open due to theft and lack of resources.

"Unfortunately we're experiencing a high level of theft of toilet paper and hand soap from our facilities across the city," he said.

"The workload on our cleaning staff has also increased immensely as they work to continually clean and disinfect high-traffic areas across the organisation.

"Our best approach is to reduce the number of public toilets that are open and provide an improved level of cleaning at the toilets that remain open."

Public toilets will be closed at the Council Chambers, Duke of Cornwall Park, North Family Play Centre, and the Lamb Oval, and signage will be placed at each closed toilet to direct users to the nearest alternative facility.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and ask for the community's patience at this time," said Mr Roncon.

Please note that Council will not be accepting surrendered animals or feral cats during the closure of the Companion Animal Facility, however Ranger services will still be available for stray animals and animal attacks.
