The Civic Debutante Ball is facing cancellation, with two more debutantes still needed to stage the historic event.

Mayor Darriea Turley said the Ball ordinarily attracts a flurry of nominations in the final week, however this year that had not occurred.

"It's not the first time we've been short on numbers for the ball, debutante numbers always fluctuate from year to year," she said.

"We got a good response when nominations first opened this year but didn't receive usual amount of late nominations."

Mayor Turley said nominations would be extended for an extra week to give the event every opportunity to go ahead.

"The Civic Ball is a wonderful Broken Hill tradition, it would be a shame to have to cancel when only two more nominations are needed," she said.

"It's such a spectacular and elegant event for the debutantes, and a special evening for all the friends and family who get to share in the night.

"I'd encourage all young ladies with an interest in making their debut to nominate this year, it will be an experience that their whole family will remember and treasure for the rest of their lives."

Nominations for the Civic Ball will remain open until midnight, June 2.

Those wishing to nominate can contact Council's Events team at events@brokenhill.nsw.gov.au or phone Civic Ball Coordinator Shannan Botten on 8080 3322.
