Council will add some festive flair to the city's main parks and CBD with an array of Christmas lights.

The rotundas in Sturt and Patton parks will be outfitted with hundreds of shimmering 'eggstrobe' lights, complemented by coloured floodlighting in the rotunda surrounds. Lights will also be added to Patton Park trees if power can be safely connected.

Heritage buildings adjoining the town square will again be bathed in coloured floodlighting, and the Christmas tree will be covered in hundreds of twinkling lights and stars.

Mayor Darriea Turley AM said the lighting displays would add to the festive spirit as Christmas approaches.

"The decorations always add a welcome splash of colour, particularly in the Town Square," said Mayor Turley.

"It really activates that space and makes it look quite spectacular.”

Mayor Turley said Council had initially hoped to have the lights up earlier but had to contend with capital city installations.

"Our installers MandyLights do a lot of installations across Australia, and they had to finish off Pitt St Mall in Sydney before they could travel out here, which we completely understand," she said.

“We're just happy to have them back for the third year in a row to brighten up the city.

"Their crews are already making up for lost time and all installations are expected to be complete by the end of the week.

The Christmas lights will remain on display across the city into the New Year.
