Library to stay open later

Council has responded to calls for the Library to remain open later in the afternoon by revising the facility's operating hours.

In June Council voted to reduce the Library's operating hours from 52 to 42, with the facility closing at 4pm on several days as part of the change.

However staff have since readjusted operating hours and staff rosters to allow the Library to be open until 6pm on most days, whilst still maintaining the weekly limit of 42 hours.

Planning focus for new library project

Councillors have endorsed Neeson Murcutt Architects to design the city's new library and surrounding cultural precinct, as Council looks to bolster its project planning and preparation.

The Sydney-based firm's $1.5 million tender for the project was accepted by Councillors at tonight's Ordinary Monthly Meeting.

Mayor Turley said Neeson Murcutt were selected as the preferred tenderer after a lengthy tender process throughout the year.

Council pursuing street light upgrades

Streetlight in front of the Imperial Motel in Broken Hill

Council could save up to $300,000 a year by upgrading the city's street lights through the Southern Lights program.

Southern Lights is a Local Government driven project that involves Councils working in cooperation with Essential Energy to change the way that street lighting is delivered across Southern NSW.

Broken Hill is a partner in the program with Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils, Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation, Central NSW Joint Organisation and Canberra Region Joint Organisation.

GOLDHEIST & James Needham: REALM Live Art and Music

Musician GOLDHEIST (aka Hester Fraser) and visual artist James Needham come together to present REALM, a collaborative performance project exploring the spirit of place. Combining their respective artistic practices, Needham will paint landscape, as inspired by tour locations, whilst GOLDHEIST provides the soundtrack, fusing her narrative songs with electro-acoustic soundscape. Simultaneously curated and improvisational, this spatially motivated 1hr performance will explore the spirit of place, and the different ways our surrounds can inspire and impact us.

Broken Hill Christmas Pageant

Broken Hill City Council together with Rotary Club of South Broken Hill join forces to bring you Broken Hill's favorite way to kick off the festive season - a parade of floats, vintage vehicles, and much more. Celebrate the start of the festive season by participating or watching as the parade makes its way down Oxide Street, along Argent Street to Sulphide St and then on to Sturt Park. The Parade will be followed by a Party in Sturt Park with community food stalls, children's activities and more.
