Australia Day Celebrations
Australia Day, January 26, is one of the biggest days of celebration in the nation.
On Australia Day, we celebrate the things that make our country great; the people, the land, our diversity, our sense of a fair go, our lifestyle and our freedoms. We reflect on our national journey. We commit to making our country even better in the future.
Australia Day Awards
Council is seeking nominations for the 2010 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award and Young Citizen of the Year Award.
The Awards are open to people who have made a noteworthy contribution to Broken Hill or the Far West region during the current year or who have given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Australia Day awards are an opportunity to recognise and thank community members whose tireless efforts so often go unnoticed.
If you would like to nominate someone for an award, nomination forms and award criteria are available below or from the Customer Relations Team, Council Administrative Building, 240 Blende Street.
Nominations will close at 5.00pm on Friday November 13, 2009.
Once nominations have been received, a selection panel, consisting of Council representatives, selected previous awardees and a Community representative, will be convened by Council to determine the 2009 Australia Day awardees.
The Broken Hill Australia Day awards will be announced and presented on Tuesday January 26, 2010 at the Australia Day Ceremony.
