The Mulga Creek Wetlands development is aimed at improving the quality of stormwater runoff leaving the streets of Broken Hill from the Mulga Creek Catchment.

In doing so the project is also aimed at harvesting this stormwater for use on council's public ovals and parks, meaning savings in terms of water consumption and cost.

The Project was initiated as part of Council's Urban Stormwater Master Plan. This plan identifies a range of upgrades to the drainage system to make it more effective, and reduce the risk of flooding
