Student nurse Paige Nash has received the 2012 David Bowler Memorial Award - a prestigious $5000 scholarship sponsored by Broken Hill City Council in partnership with the Far West Local Health District.
Ms Nash (21), who is working at Broken Hill Hospital and studying to become a Registered Nurse, is a "tremendous role model" for her generation according to Broken Hill Mayor Wincen Cuy.
"Not only is Paige pursuing a very important career path, but her desire to utilise those skills for the benefit of Broken Hill is something to be commended," Mayor Cuy said.
"It is that type of attitude that will help our city prosper into the future and I hope that other younger members of the Broken Hill community follow the example that Paige is setting.
"I am sure that Paige's parents are particularly proud of their daughter - and rightly so - she is a tremendous role model for the youth of Broken Hill," Mayor Cuy continued.
Paige, who was one of 17 nominees for the award, said she was honoured to be granted the scholarship.
The scholarship is to commemorate the name and work of the late Dr. David Bowler, who was a highly respected paediatrician at the Broken Hill Health Service.
