Landfill

  • Council's Waste Depot and landfill, situated at Wills Street, Broken Hill

  • Open every day including Public Holidays from 7am to 6pm.

  • Christmas Day is the only day in the year it is closed.

  • Our Landfill operates as a "drop off facility."

Residents are urged to separate their waste into the correct areas.  If all residents separate their waste, the Landfill will remain a FREE service.

The separate areas available for residents to deposit their waste are:

White goodsBatteries
CardboardOils / oil filters
MetalsHot ashes
TimberGreen Waste
2nd Hand shopGeneral Waste

Other Recycling Facilities around town include:

  • 5 cent containers - any container with a 5 cent sign on it can be taken to Channings Bottle Yard in Newton Lane, to collect your cash back.  Channings also accept any glass containers/jars and will recycle them free of charge.

  • Printer Cartridges - all makes and models can be recycled by placing them in the box provided at your local Post Office.

  • Mobile Phones and Printer Cartridges - can be recycled at Broken Hill Hobbies and Electronics in Argent Street.

  • Plastic Bags - can be recycled at your local supermarket in the bin provided at the front of the store.  Participating stores include: Woolworths and Coles.

Clothes and household items - can be taken to the :

Salvation Army Family Store, 220 Argent Street

Red Cross Society, 67 Oxide Street

St Vincent de Paul, 97 Argent Street

Lifeline, 119 - 127 Argent Street
