Residential Waste Services

KERBSIDE HOUSEHOLD WASTE COLLECTION

Broken Hill City Council operates a kerbside domestic waste service for all residents on a weekly basis.  For the majority of residents this is a two (2) bin system:

  2. Bio Insert MGB with bright green lid and vents for green waste fornightly collection.

Household Garbage: Use only for garbage, recycle at our landfill as much as possible and do not place hot ashes in the bin.

Residents are asked to put their mobile garbage bins in the edge of the kerb.

Handles towards your house, with a distance of one (1) metre from any tree.

Ensure bins are not placed near parked cars as the bins cannot be emptied.

Collection Times Domestic Waste bins are collected between 6am and 2pm

On Public Holidays Collection starts from 6am.

What day is my collection? Ring Environmental Services on 8080 3340 provide them with your address and you will be given a collection day.

Disabled Waste Services These bins have a yellow lid and are collected from the residence instead of the kerb.  See Council Waste Services policy for more information.

House Numbers For Councils mobile garbage bins are available from the Environmental Services Division located on the first floor of the Administrative Centre.

Damaged/Stolen bins Contact Council in regard to stolen or damaged bins and arrangements can be made for their maintenance or replacement.

Bin not Collected! What do I do? Ensure the bin was put out at the correct time, facing the right direction, clear of obstructions.  If all this was correct then ring Environmental Services on 8080 3340.

Recycling Opportunities:

Our local Landfill provides residents with the opportunity to recycle many items.  Please refer to the link above for a more detailed of recycling at our landfill.  Remember there are many good reasons why we should recycle:

  • Recycling conserves resources for our children's future

  • Recycling reduces the amount of waste going to landfill

  • Recycling stimulates the development of greener technologies

So reduce your waste and do the best you can to make our environment cleaner and greener by separating recyclables from your garbage bin!
